Advance Search / Search Advisor Course

The course is designed for those who wish to enhance their own skill set, and to add value to their existing IMAS EOD qualifications through a transition into the Search area of expertise. The prerequisite to attend this course is to have an IMAS EOD Level 3 Certificate or equivalent (on review by our board of SMEs). The Advanced Search Adviser course is designed to empower successful applicants, with the ability to plan and execute Advanced Search tasks (and training tasks), within a challenging and ever-changing industry.

Included in the syllabus

Traditional Mine Action TTPs generally focus on mitigating the risks posed by Explosive Ordnance (EO) and these have been augmented through IMAS 09.31 with the specific skills required to mitigate the risk of IEDs. AS can and will significantly enhance these current C-EO tactics, techniques, and procedures. The skills that the AS course will deliver are:

– Planning & Executing AS Operations

– Planning & Executing Counter IED / Threat Mitigation Training.

– Gain Advanced (High Risk) Search qualification.

– VIP Event Security and Venue Search.

– Producing enhanced Threat Assessments.

High Level Training Objectives

– AS Search Capabilities.

– Terrorist Methods of Attack (MoA).

– Threat Assessment (TA).

– Ground Sign Awareness (GSA).

– Vulnerability Assessment.

– Search Planning (Person, Vehicle, Route, Area, Building and Support to IED).

– Threat Mitigation.

– Multiagency coordination.

Confirmatory Exercises, Assessments & Formal Tests

  • Advanced (IMAS 3) UXO recognition & identification tests,
  • Multiple item disposal techniques assessment (IMAS Level 3 EOD standard),
  • Physically fit and be prepared to work for extended periods without close or direct supervision,
  • Must be able to brief confidently and have above average communication skills (both written and oral).
