MAT Kosovo EOD & ERW Training Establishment Upgrade and Refurbishment in March 2024
Period of Development for Personnel, Equipment, and Infrastructure
After a busy start to 2024, we decided to ensure that we set aside a period in which to upgrade and refit much of the training infrastructure and facilities at the MAT Kosovo site, so that our clients have the very best training experience possible.
Internal Specialist Equipment Training
We are uplifting our training equipment inventory significantly, and our training team and training support team are undergoing training on both Scanna XRS3 portable X-ray systems. We now have two different systems at our facility: the 3E-898 (non-wireless) and the 3B-938 (wireless). The wireless system 3B-938 also includes trigger radio 433MHz. This training will take place on the 11th of March.
Also on the 18th of March, Sensys will be conducting a training at the MAT Kosovo site for our team on the MAGNETO MX V3 digital geophysical mapping system, which we took delivery of recently. The MAGNETO MX V3 is a large area magnetometer survey system hosting up to 16 fluxgate gradio-metres on a trailer with a width of 3.85m. This allows rapid, non-invasive cartography on land in order to search for UXO.
In support of the Sensys DGM system, we have also invested in two Spectra DGPS SP60 systems capable of fixing locations to + or – 1cm.
This in-house specialised training on the Scanna and Sensys equipment will be completed by the time our next course arrives, which will be the 23rd of March, after which we will be running IMAS-compliant courses in parallel from the 6th of April, non-stop, both our scheduled IMAS courses and client-bespoke courses.
Infrastructure Upgrade
New Classroom
In terms of training infrastructure upgrades, we are now building a third-purpose classroom on our MAT Kosovo site. This classroom will mirror our most recent classroom (2017), which is large enough to cater for 24 students. This additional classroom will give us the capacity to deliver training to 70 or more students at any one time. The new classroom will be completed by the end of March 2024.
ROV Store
We have now converted one of our storages for our increasing array of ROVs. This storage is temperature-controlled, protecting the ROV’s electronics from condensation caused by temperature variations, which can be a real issue. So correct storage and the storage environment are incredibly important.
‘Redfire’ Heavy Platform
We have recently fully automated our 2 Redfire ROV’s based on the Wheelbarrow Mark 7 system, which were MOD reserves and are in ‘as new’ condition. These Redfires are what we term as our heavy weapons based platform, and apart from their incineration system and retrieval system, they will also be adapted as mounts for disruptors and de-armers.
Talon MK4 Recce EOD Robots
In late 2023, we procured 5 x Talon MK4 ROVs and spares to further enhance our remote capability with regard to IEDD training delivery. These Talons are, in recent years, one of the most used ROVs globally and add a great deal to our inventory.
New Equipment and Equipment Expected to Arrive Soon
Other equipment we have either taken delivery of or are expecting to arrive at our facility soon includes DJI Drones and Thermal Imaging cameras (we now have 7), a Yamaha Grizzly ATV and Trailer, for towing the Sensys system. A double axel tail drop gate Blueline Trailer, built to enable the movement of our ROV’s, drive in, drive out. SCBA Equipment sets and Breathing Air Compressor. 2 x 4020 NP Aerospace Bomb Suits complete. Chemical suits, radiation, and other CBRN detection equipment. Exploders of varying types. EOD Weapons of varying types, including the RE70 Dual System from Chemring. Detectors, Locators, PPE, and the list goes on!
