September 12, 2023Bespoke NATO Seniors IEDD Course – August 7th to September 1st, 2023
The beginning of this week saw the start of the NATO Seniors IEDD Course in Malta. The six trainees are from a group of police/CID personnel, whom we have already trained in the past, most recently to IMAS IEDD Level 3. That was 2 ½ years ago, and most probably will remain the highest level IMAS IEDD training level anyone will ever receive (IMAS IEDD L3+ being about CBRN IEDs mostly). So they’ve all been operating at the highest level in their home country, doing the toughest tasks, and they are still the same group! They are a dedicated bunch, and so now they are doing the next step, again with us of course, going beyond IMAS into high-threat training.
Being the highest-level IEDD operators in their home country already, they expect nothing less than to be put through the hoops right off the get-go. The first week is a crash-course through all the pre-requisites: refresher training, revisions, and assessments on CMD and IMAS IEDD levels. During this phase our students revisit and refresh what they have been taught in the past. It’s a good warm-up for what comes next, plus it’s happening right at our head-office location, in Malta, which at this time of the year is definitely a bit of a bonus for our students’ off-time. Malta may be small, but there is a lot of history and natural beauty too, as long as you have the locals to guide you where to look for it. You just need to stay away from the August masses of sunseekers.
Following this intensive week of revision and assessments, the students then fly to Kosovo together with the training staff, to continue at our dedicated, permanent Training Centre. Here, the bespoke course for this highly qualified group of specialists gets “real”, simulating many diverse high-threat scenarios, which will be as realistic as they can get.
No course would be complete, and certainly not a course at this level, without some days in our dedicated Montenegro range where all our students, at all levels, get to attack real live targets. So stay tuned for updates. This group has progressively trained with us throughout their careers. They are the best, doing the toughest IED jobs of all back in their home country. And they keep coming back. We are proud of them, and we’ll give them what they came for: a lot of hard work and tough training. The best environment for breaks in between is just a bonus.
