PCM & MAT Kosovo Weather the COVID-19 Storm – Message from Ben Remfrey, MD
December 15, 2020MAT Kosovo reopens today under strict health protection protocols

Our very own Dr. Burim Kotori, regional health expert and MAT Kosovo medic, Medical course trainer, and IMAS L3 operator, doing his (current) day-job
Today, after a four-month lockdown, our training center in Peja, Western Kosovo, starts another residential course.
Dr. Burim Kotori, who is on our staff but whose time we have donated indefinitely for him to fulfil a senior role in the public health service during the crisis, has developed the protective protocol which applies to students and staff to keep everyone safe. This morning Dr. Kotori himself briefed students on the protocol. It includes instruction on hygiene, distancing, protective equipment, and segregating students from commuting staff for example. It also includes having core student-facing staff effectively co-quarantined with the students in our full residential training compound. Students will have minimal direct contact with anyone who commutes home daily, and they will also be tested at our expense at least once during the three-week course to mitigate the risk of an uncontained outbreak.
After a rather difficult two months for the region, infection numbers in Kosovo and in the wider region have now also started to improve, slowly but consistently, over the last two weeks, and travel restrictions have relaxed a good deal. But we are not relaxing just yet. In spite of the good vibes all around about being back in business and in the classrooms, we are doing everything possible to protect staff and students, and keep them away from the risks they would face if they had to mix with or reside within the wider population.

No stone is left un-turned: lunch is served strictly one-by-one; dining furniture all replaced with easily fumigated surfaces.

During a properly, socially distanced lunch within their own assigned group, students are getting some mask-less time.
So both our training locations are now in full swing, because in parallel with the Level 2 core course starting today we are running a Level 3+ course in Montenegro at the same time, just as we have been running courses in Montenegro for nearly two months now. Our staff are fired up, and there’s been a definite mood of raring to go, and even the cooks and cleaners and security staff are excited to have students to look after, now that the long period of working “in isolation” has ended.
We wish everyone, in every region, that their respective community situation will keep improving, and encourage everyone who’s been waiting for news on our courses to check with us about their particular travel requirements and protocol in and out of Kosovo and/or Montenegro. Our head office staff monitor all protocols and restrictions for all customers and prospective customers all the time, and courses are scheduled to take place in both Kosovo and Montenegro to allow maximum flexibility for our students.
