‘Sonny’ the Explosive Detection Dog (EDD) joins the MAT Kosovo (MK’s) EOD & ERW Training Establishment’s Staff.
In November 2018, an 18-month old labrador named ‘Sonny’ joined our growing team. Sonny was gifted to MAT Kosovo’s school by Dog Detectives http://www.dogdetectives.com/ who are a Specialist Search Dog Company from Cheshire in the UK. PCM and Dog Detectives have a long relationship having worked together in several countries in the past. Ben Remfrey, PCM’s Managing Director, said that “Working with Dog Detectives is a natural choice for us, having been supplied by what can only be described as the finest quality dogs in the past. Dave and Andy Jones are the owners of Dog Detectives, a father and son team, and they really do care about their dogs and where they go. Moreover, the meticulous care with which they prepare their dogs really stands out”.
Sonny’s role at the school will be to enhance aspects of our IMAS EOD Courses but more importantly to feature in the Humanitarian IED Clearance & Humanitarian IED Defeat Courses, as an asset to be used for Search and Location.
Dog Detectives deployed Sonny with a Trainer who over a period of weeks trained MK’s Heroik Kuqi as the MDD handler – Heroik was then assessed by Andy Jones himself, and Sonny & Heroik certified as a K9 EDD team in December 2018. Ever since then, Sonny and Heroik do drills every day on multiple targets to keep Sonny current.
Welcome to Sonny, thanks to Dog Detectives and well done Heroik!
