TECNOSUB EOD Team training at MAT Kosovo
January 16, 2019The Verige Strait is the narrow entrance to the inner Bay of Kotor on the beautiful coast of Montenegro. Because of its strategic importance in both World Wars, the area was heavily fortified. In WW1 an Austro-Hungarian ammunition depot had an unplanned detonation which threw tons of unexploded ordnance across the surrounding land and into the Verige Strait. The area is now a tourist haven, where many people walk in the area surrounding the depot and swim or boat in the Verige Strait itself. Many large cruise ships enter through the strait on a regular basis. The time has come to survey and remove the many hazards which remain out of sight but continue to contaminate the area and if left unchecked could prove lethal.
